Richmond Historical Society Minutes

Richmond Public Library Attendees: Diane Giammarco, Fran Heap, Bonnie McCarthy, Wendy O’Brien, Suzen Perry, and Lenny Solomon.

Lenny Solomon called the meeting to order at 1:32 p.m. Minutes: A motion was made to accept the March 2, 2023 minutes. The motion was seconded and passed.

Treasurer’s Report:

Suzen reported that there is $9,705.97 in the NHDIP account and $580.43 in the TD Bank account. She has completed the 2022 IRS filing and is working on the State of NH Annual Report. She is hoping to transfer the funds from TD Bank to Savings Bank of Walpole. Lenny noted that the $11,850 from the curtain grant needs to be added to the report. Bonnie McCarthy made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report as amended. Fran Heap seconded the motion and it passed.

Students of Richmond Reunion Follow-up: Wendy O’Brien reported that she has met with Sharon Patnode and Donna Brewer to create a list of names of alumni to be invited. The reunion will be held on Saturday, July 22, from 12-4 at the Library unless there are too many attendees, then it will be held at the Pavilion. It was suggested that pictures be taken of the attendees, head shots and possibly an outdoor group shot.

Programming-Reunion, Dances,

Re-schedule of Oral History: Fran will be confirming with Dr. Goodby regarding the Native American talk on May 17. Suzen will be giving her rescheduled genealogy presentation on Wednesday, April 26 at 6:30 at the Veterans Hall.

Curtains and Their Framework: Lenny reported that he has contacted the person in Swanzey who coordinated the curtain restoration at Whitcomb Hall. He would like to inspect the carpentry framework holding the curtain rolls to develop a plan for the Richmond curtains. He has contacted two carpenters but needs additional details. Fran noted that it would be good to note in the Rooster that the Veterans Hall will be closed between July 8-15 for the restoration work. Lenny and Suzen will host Christine Hadsell as needed during the restoration.

Report on the Keene Archive Visit: Wendy briefly noted that the visit went well and was very informative. There was a brief discussion of the space and environmental requirements needed to bring the archival material back to Richmond.

Renewal of Liability Insurance, See email from Frank Massin Agency: Bonnie made a motion to renew the liability insurance for one year. Fran seconded the motion and it passed.

Old Business: Town Pound: It was noted that the signage has been ordered and is being prepared. Dick Drew has permission from the State of NH to put in the ramp to access the Pound and he will schedule a brush clean-up day.

New Business Proposed Rooster Article: Suzen stated that she would like to write an article for the Rooster asking for volunteers and monetary donations. She will bring the proposed wording to the May meeting.

Website: Suzen reported that the website, hosted by WIX, has been difficult to maintain. She noted that the site is up for renewal on May 9. A website subcommittee of Fran, Bonnie, and Wendy was formed to assist Suzen as needed. It was requested that website review become a regular agenda item.

Next Meeting: The next meeting will be held on Thursday, May 4, from 1:30-2:30 at the Library. Adjournment: Bonnie made a motion to adjourn the meeting. The motion was seconded by Fran and passed. The meeting was adjourned at 2:19 p.m. Respectfully Submitted, Wendy O’Brien, Secretary
